NATIONAL HANDLOOM DAY: 7th AUGUST

This year we celebrated 6th National Handloom Day. This day is celebrated in order to pay the tribute to the Swadeshi Movement in 1905. The main objective of this day is to generate awareness about the handloom industry.

For the first time in India, we celebrated this day virtually in order to avoid any public gathering because of the pandemic disease coronavirus.

Smt. Smriti Irani (Textiles Minister), was the chief guest of the function. This function was attended virtually by the handloom clusters across India, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Campuses, all the 28 Weaver Service Centre, National Handloom Development Corporation, and others. India will be giving online marketing opportunities to the weavers and handloom producers. For this, a virtual fair will be organized on 7, 10, and 11 August in which more than 150 participants from different regions of the country participate. This is a great opportunity for them.

Many celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Janhvi Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Sonam Kapoor, and many more through social media contribute to the National Handloom Day by sharing their photos in Indian Traditional Dress. Their aim is to promote Indian handloom.

we hope that our effort towards making India a self-reliant country would be successful.
